About

Ian Stiles-Mikl is a visual artist and designer based in San Diego, CA.

He firmly believes in the importance of community art and its power to foster unity, empower community engagement, offer cultural representation, and beautify urban landscapes. Possessing a BFA (Emphasis in Painting) from Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, NY, Ian's lifelong admiration for murals and street art drives his enthusiasm to share his passion through community projects.

With a range of styles throughout the years from photorealist oil paintings to 3D printed sculptures, he is currently focused on abstract work. Drawing inspiration from graffiti, letterforms, and abstract expressionism, he often starts a painting with layers of journaling and drawings which become the framework for his art. It is a therapeutic exercise as important as the finished piece. Finding order in a chaotic process is what fuels the progression, giving a new purpose to text while inviting viewers to explore their own interpretations and connections with the artwork.
