ArtReach HQ

New ArtReach HQ in Hillcrest! This was a collaborative design with @mister_esteban@izzymcfizzy_ and myself, however I was on vacation during most of the design process so major props to Esteban, Izzy, and the rest of the ArtReach team that contributed! 👏

The community paint day was a lot of fun and the first time Saba, Azira, Aidan, and I all worked on a mural together! A big thank you to the 200+ community members who helped paint this wall.

This mural joyfully captures the heart of ArtReach: an inclusive, welcoming space that celebrates youth creativity and community connection. Located in the historic Hillcrest neighborhood, this mural honors our shared community’s vibrancy and rich history.

Prominently featured are highlights from the Hillcrest Pride Parade, with colorful legs marching resiliently through confetti. A serene coastal landscape acknowledges Kumeyaay land, with tide pools symbolizing constant change. Cyanotypes (sun prints) of local wildflowers, created during ArtReach community workshops, complement a disco ball that reflects the importance of celebration, movement, and play within our lives. The Georgia Street Bridge, proudly adorned with an inclusive pride flag, stands on the horizon, marking the gateway to our neighborhood.

Above the bridge, a triptych illustrates the transformative power of art. A matchstick’s spark evolves into a moon, and then a bird in flight, to symbolize the creative journey of each youth participant in ArtReach’s programs. A single spark of an idea can grow into a full-fledged dream. Follow this bird around the corner and you will find youth art classes, mural painting, and collaborative programs in action.

Katy Yeaw and myself also painted the ArtReach signage on the front corners of the building.

Huge thanks to Mike and Scott, Co-Owners of @uptowntavernsd who sponsored this project!
